Abberley Hall School, Worcestershire UK, invests in Solar thermal technology

Press release September 20, 2010

Going Solar LLP UK supplies 48 flat plate solar collectors (from S-Solar Sweden) to Abberley Hall School to provide heat to the pool and the showers. The installation will cover 120 m2 and the collectors will be placed on the roof of the swimming pool building.

“This is the first order for us in the school segment and we are very proud to be the chosen supplier in this case” says Charles Houston, Partner in Going Solar.

The solar collectors will provide heated water to the pool and to all the showers in three buildings and some perimeter heating in the boys’ game changing room. The order also includes the replacement of single switch to individual push shower controls and a liquid pool cover to reduce evaporation and energy loss from the pool. The solar installation will produce about 95 000 kWh per annum saving a lot of energy and reducing the CO2 emission as the pool and showers earlier were heated by oil.

Abberley Hall is a mixed boarding school, 12 miles west of Worcester, comprising a collection of buildings including a modern indoor pool which lies adjacent to the boys’ games changing rooms and a sports hall, both with their own showers. The pool is used by a local swimming club throughout the year when not in use by the school.

John Walker, Headmaster of Abberley Hall School comments:
“Using solar thermal technology is not only an important opportunity to save money on energy bills, but also an excellent way to show the school’s determination to reduce its carbon footprint.
We were pleased with the professional way that Going Solar approached and carried out the project and the after sales care that we have received”.

Going Solar LLP is specialized in providing medium to large renewable energy solutions for large domestic and commercial sectors and other organizations, such as educational and healthcare. Going Solar offers turn-key solutions: system design, specification, installation and commissioning, through to after-care services (the most important of these being system design).
The company was founded in 2009 and is a partner to S-Solar AB from Sweden, manufacturers of the Sunstrip solar collector which is used in over 50% of the large installations in Europe for air cooling as well as water heating.
