Karlstad, a city in the mid-west of Sweden, is known for it’s sunny weather and successful hockey team and other sports. In 2007 the Tingvalla sports area was built, a new sports center including several arenas and buildings supported by a shared service center. A solar thermal solution was installed to provide hot water and heating. The installation included 170 m2 of vacuum tube solar collectors producing 120 kW of energy, and 172 m2 of solar cells (PV) with an output of 20 kW. S-Solar delivered the technology to the local installation firm.The installation has been in use since September 2007 and is the first of its kind combining solar heating and solar electricity technology.
